This Paper Quilled Bowl Class with Erin Newman will be in two parts. In the first class, Erin will supply quilling paper, tools, glue bottles, and instructions for making the tight coils. Erin will also have some creative ideas to add whimsy to your design. Students will make some coils in class; however, the majority of the coil production will be done ON YOUR OWN at home before the second class.
The second class is longer, allowing extra time for the final steps. For the second class, students will need to have ALL COILS READY TO BE GLUED ONTO THE BOWL FORM. Once coils are glued onto the bowl, it is finished with PVA coating. *NOTE: THIS IS A 2-DAY CLASS, please make sure you can attend both.

We will construct with hand crafted paper as well as vintage paper, scrap book inserts, vintage envelopes and letters, old documents and non-traditional papers typically not considered for this magical art form. Several projects will use found paper also known as “road-kill”. We will approach collage from a formalist perspective: looking at composition in regards to space, shape, line, color and pattern. At the end of each project we look at our collages as a group and consider the work as a unit, critique individual work, shedding light on what makes a good composition, learning to construct intuitively.
