Workshop Description:
In this hands-on workshop, explore the art of copper etching to create a unique, personalized book cover. Learn the Secret Belgian Binding technique to fill your book with pages, blending creative design with bookbinding craftsmanship.

Supply List:

Provided by Students:

  • Apron and old clothes (etching chemicals may stain)

  • Old cloth towel and a roll of paper towels

  • Ruler, pen, and pencil for notes

  • Covered plastic container for fuming (e.g., salad/lettuce container)

  • Foam paintbrush for glue

  • Bucket for water

  • Decorative paper for bookboard (for practice book)

  • Bookbinding tools (awl, bone folder, bookbinder needles)

  • Paper for signatures (optional, if creating your own)

Provided by erin harris:

  • Copper for book covers and spine

  • Etching materials and supplies (metal, etchant, prep/cleaning supplies, PnP Blue sheets, neutralizing solution)

  • Patina supplies (vinegar, ammonia, salt)

  • Fuming containers

  • Waxed linen thread for binding

  • Punches for metal, flex shaft for drilling, files, sandpaper

  • Practice bookboard/matte board for Secret Belgian Binding

  • PVA glue

  • Gloves

  • Small heat press
