Lyn Hart
The desert is full of tactile and visual textures, subtle and shocking colors, patterns, gradations, juxtapositions. Things exposed and things hidden. Tranquility and turbulence. It is fresh and sharp, yet weathered by the elements, time and pure searing heat.
​I am constantly inspired by this sere, sensual and stimulating land that I call home. My work explores the many layers of meaning inherent within my sense of this intriguing place. This is where I belong. Austere and sublime, the desert is my muse.
Bio
Lyn has been creating art as long as she can remember. In the early 2000s, she began to pursue the medium of handwoven tapestry, started exhibiting her work, and constructed her home studio. Experimentations with mixed media collage during the 2010s led her work away from representation and into non-objective abstraction. Her membership in the Tucson artist group, PaperWorks – The Sonoran Collective for Paper and Book Artists, sparked explorations in creating artist books. Lyn’s woven work has garnered a number of awards, including three National Park artist residencies at Grand Canyon North Rim, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and Zion, earning her the distinction of being the first tapestry weaver to participate in the National Park system’s artist-in-residence program. Her work has been exhibited in both local and national venues. Lyn’s passion for and exploration of the Sonoran Desert began when she and her husband relocated to Tucson in 1997, was enhanced during the 2010s as a volunteer naturalist at Sabino Canyon Recreation Area and further honed by a yearlong 2018 Arts Fellowship at the University of Arizona’s Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill. Her wanderings in and explorations of the Southwest continue today.
