Artist Statement

The appreciation of sunshine, light spaces, distance, and color drives much of my work. Art has always been a natural expression of my personal feelings and relationship to the world. Art is a concept, an expression, an idea set free. It is the observation of a feeling or connection of an ideas. I want the spirit of the piece to be communicated in my art.

Artist Information

A painting has life and movement to it. My work begins by laying down color and marks on the surface of paper or canvas. I then add more layers of paint and cut back to the layers below. Silent Spaces began as a study in texture that developed into many shades of turquoise and green worked into the collaged surface. The warm colors in Love Notes move across the painting like writing on the wind.

I have been working on a series of paintings with words. The artwork and the word become interchangeable. The painting “Water” reminds us of what it provides for us. I wanted the color and flow to reflect the sense of water. The words tumble out listing the importance of water to life itself. Humanity is a reminder of the importance of our human bond and the ways we interact with each other.

I studied at Parsons School of Design in New York before graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from C.W. Post college. My master’s degree in special education is from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Currently I am a member of PaperWorks, a Saguaro Fellow in the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, and a Signature member of the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona.
