March of 2016, Erin Newman rolled her first paper quilling strip, making a five petal flower. Within a few days, a field of paper flowers had blossomed in her studio. Self taught, via blogs and social media, she found paper quilling to be exciting and challenging. Her whimsical, kaleidoscopic creations are designed by hand rolling an array of paper strips into beautiful pieces of mosaic art. The intricate rolling and shaping is like “painting with paper.” Erin’s paper quilling art is unique in that it combines the color and contrasts of paintings with the texture and dimensions of sculpture. It is these combinations that makes her art uniquely eye appealing while drawing the viewer in for a closer look.

Awards
Erin won “Best in Show for 2D art” at the La Encantada Fine Art Festival in Tucson, AZ in January 2020. Erin was awarded her first ribbon at the Cornerstone Hospital "My Favorites" Art Show in 2019. She won 3rd place for "Dressed in White" paper quilling art. The Judges comments were, "the subtle monochromatic color scheme invites the viewer to become more intimate with a piece that unfolds a whole universe of complex line and texture in intricate coils, curls, and creases. Lowly pieces of paper are so tenderly and masterfully manipulated.”
