Biography
Barbara Brandel started out with figure drawing, moved to weaving and fiber art for nearly thirty years.
In 2000, she focused on 2-D, with collaged paintings of figures made of world postage stamps and maps. The figures resembled tattooed bodies, with elements of various cultures embedded. These painted collages are still an ongoing series.
Since 2018, with collages made from found magazine images, assembled spontaneously, she enlarges and paints the images on canvas with acrylic. This new series is titled “Fever Dreams”.
Brandel believes that each phase of her artwork has informed the work that was to come. Important qualities to her work are always luminous color and beauty well-crafted by the artist’s own hand.
Throughout her career, and within each series, she has shown in exhibits locally and nationally, and has been featured in various publications. Several local pubic collections and individuals nationally have collected her artworks.
