Artist Statement:
In my artistic practice, I delve into the psychological and philosophical dimensions of living spaces. I am particularly interested in the intricate relationship between these spaces and our emotional landscapes, memories, and imaginative realms. To me, my country, or in a sense my home, is a place marked by rapid deterioration and destruction, entangled with a web of mixed emotions. A place I both love and hate, avoid and yearn to return to simultaneously. It is a place woven into the fabric of memories, people, and events, all refracted through the prism of recollection. The spaces in my pieces are mostly read as domestic spaces. However, I am using these recognizable spaces as metaphors or reflections of societies or a large-scale structure we create to live in.
I am captivated by the transformative power of physical spaces, including rooms, corners and hallways, which have the ability to elicit deep emotional and psychological responses in individuals. These spaces transcend mere functionality; they possess poetic and symbolic dimensions that shape and are shaped by our inner thoughts, emotions, and creative expressions. Essentially, it could be said that our homes serve as tangible reflections of our inner selves. My painting process is primarily intuitive, guided by a visual lexicon drawn from Persian architecture, carpets, and miniatures. The intuitive process, coupled with the reliance on memory to recall familiar spaces in some pieces, imparts a surreal and dreamlike quality to my work. I attribute this quality to the similarities between memories and dreams, as they are both distorted and vague, retaining only the essence of things.
